The Brouk+Babka Department Store

The first floor of the Brouk+Babka department store on Pražská street in Liberec is still extant in its original form from 1936 and is quite eye-catching with its unusual design. The entrance to the store can only be accessed by passing by two glass display pavilions which present current products. In this way, the shop-window area available for such advertisement is almost tripled. The customer can stroll along the pavilions even at night and look to see what goods are on offer. The left side of the building carries an inconspicuous stairway leading to flats on the upper floors. There is a small »exhibition« showing the building's history with pictures of building plans and photos, this was installed during the renovation of the house in 2005. The department store with its bold, luminous front is today a listed building, and remains a department store.
